Buttercup

Buttercup is a handsome male Roborovski hamster, estimated to be around one year old, who is now looking for his forever home.

Buttercup originally shared an enclosure with another Roborovski, Ralphie. As they matured, they became increasingly territorial, so they were separated to allow each of them to have their own space. Since then, Buttercup has settled in wonderfully and is thriving in foster care.

Like many Roborovskis, Buttercup is happiest during the late evening and is usually one of the last to wake, often emerging from his burrows around 10 pm. Once awake, he loves exploring, running on his wheel and creating intricate burrow systems in his bedding.

For a Roborovski, Buttercup is growing in confidence and has even allowed his foster mum to gently stroke him. While he is still very much a “look, don’t touch” hamster compared with larger species, it’s been lovely to see his trust continue to grow.

Buttercup would love a spacious enclosure with plenty of deep bedding, a large sand bath and lots of enrichment to keep him busy. If you’re looking for a fascinating little hamster to watch as he goes about his nightly adventures, Buttercup could be the perfect companion.
